JOINT OPERATION: Flood victims get help from military personnel as well as Syabas, Puncak Niaga and TNB

  • KUALA LUMPUR: FOLLOWING a call by the Defence Ministry to extend assistance to flood victims  in Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor, agencies within the Malaysian Armed Forces have teamed up  with several other organisations to provide aid.
  • The Territorial Army's Royal Engineers Regiment's (RAJD) water and electricity experts (Rejimen Pakar Pengendalian Air Ke-60 RAJD and Rejimen Pakar Pengendalian Bekalan Elektrik Ke-70) as well as Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas), Puncak Niaga and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) launched the Flood Relief and Clean Water Supply Assistance mission called Operation Murni to help the victims.
  • Op Murni was launched by Brigadier-General of Rejimen Pakar Pengendalian Air Ke-60 RAJD (Territorial Army) Tan Sri Rozali Ismail who is also Syabas's executive chairman.
  • Seventy RAJD squadron members are part of Op Murni. Some of them are experts in water management while 20 from the Territorial Army, who are also TNB staff, are electricity experts. Thirty Armed Forces personnel and 16 Syabas employees are also part of the mission.
  • The first phase of the mission involved transporting 8,800 five-litre bottles of water and 9,600 500ml bottles of drinking water.
  • Syabas, TNB and the Armed Forces provided 23 lorries and six water tankers for this purpose.
  • Puncak Niaga is also supplying two portable water purification systems called Jernih. Jernih, a highly innovative product which uses bio-sand technology filters, was jointly developed with the army.
  • It is capable of generating 3,000 litres of clean water per day. Members of the mission are also trained to help people in disaster areas and during emergencies.
